Spring Wedding in Sheffield. Ceremony in the Woods followed by a Kelham Island Reception
A celebrant wedding by the water and food and drinks in Kelham was perfection for Jade and Jamie’s wedding day.
There is so much freedom in your wedding day- lots of couples don’t really know about this-and to be honest, before I was in the wedding industry, neither did I. You can literally get married anywhere with a celebrant.
When I first met Jade & Jamie when they sent me a lovely enquiry about their wedding day they had planned a very different day to what they ended up having. They planned their big day, hired their Manor House venue, booked all their suppliers and as time ticked on they realised that the day they were planning didn’t represent them as a couple. I remember Jade emailing me telling me that she was having a hard time with not feeling excited about her wedding day because non if it felt like them. They made the very hard decision to literally throw all of their wedding plans out of the window and start again from scratch. I sent her SO many ideas about how their wedding day could be, how it could look, and how it could feel.
They decided that a ceremony at Dam Flask, under the canopy of trees, down by the waters edge, surrounded by nature felt right to them. And the whole ceremony was beyond perfect.
After their ceremony by the waters edge at Dam Flask it was time for a few family photographs, a mingle with family and friends, a few couple photographs by the edge of the water and then a quick drive to the top of the Peaks. The guests made their way over to the ceremony at Kelham Island giving Jade and Jamie a little time alone to soak it all in.
I love taking portrait photographs of the couple on their wedding day- out of all the photographs you have on your wedding day, these are the ones that will make it to print. The ones you have displayed in your home and the ones everyone wants to see on your socials.
I love a wedding at Kelham Island. There’s so many pockets of gorgeousness and steeped in history from the Steel Work Days. Being a wedding photographer based on the outskirts of Sheffield I am often at Kelham Island. Weddings at Kelham Island are just beautiful, Jade and Jamie had their reception at Saw Grinders Union and it was the first time I had been to shoot a wedding reception. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great, super laid back and relaxed, a lovely outdoor area for guests and such amazing food.
When it comes to your wedding day, it is so easy to go to a blog post telling you what you need to make your wedding day a “wedding day”. You get a tick list of all the things you need and what you think you have to include to make your day memorable and as though having all of these things makes your wedding a “wedding”.
A ceremony at Dam Flask, overlooking the water and sheltered by the trees by the AMAZING Helen really made their ceremony personal to them. Then Kelham at the Saw Grinders Union for amazing food and drinks and a laid back atmosphere = a perfect wedding day!
What started off as a stately home wedding which had a formality about it turned into a stylish laid back affair that really represented both Jade and Jamie…and that shows on their faces.
When it comes to our wedding days we have to do what speaks to us. Don’t feel like you have to have a certain day in order for it to be a ‘wedding’. Your wedding day is about the two of you and how you want to celebrate this special occasion in your life.
If you needed a sign from the universe to stop saying yes to all the things that don’t feel like you- then this is it! Jade & Jamie’s day was authentic to them, and that will always be the most special way to remember your wedding day.
