A Lush Back Garden Tipi Wedding
Intimate weddings during COVID will always hold a special place in my heart.
Laura and Alex were married at Laura’s local church and had their reception in her parents back garden with tipis and a gin bar. in Yorkshire.
Intimate weddings during COVID hold such a special place in my heart- it was such a terrible time for couples having to decide whether to rearrange or go forward with a smaller guest list- but for Laura and Alex they opted for an intimate wedding guest list and had a wedding day to remember… with a lovely surprise for their guests during speeches.
In keeping with the laid back wedding vibe, Laura decided not to have hair and makeup photographed, so I sat in her parents garden waiting for her and we had a special moment with her and her dad. I love a father daughter first look. He waited for her out in the gardens surrounded by all the Spring blossoms, and as she walked out his reaction was pure joy.
Then I went over to see the boys, they were all ready to go…waiting at church but still trying to figure out their button holes. Is it even a wedding if the Groom and Groomsmen aren’t watching a YouTube video on how to put in a button hole correctly?
When Laura turned up to church with her dad, just those two, no bridesmaids, no entourage, just them…and were greeted by so many people who waited along side of the road to get a glimpse of her and offer their congratulations.
Because so many people weren’t able to attend the wedding Laura had no idea that they would do this. It made for such a lovely moment before she was married.
A huge surprise for Laura was waiting outside of church, which was enough to bring tears to my eyes. Laura is a primary school teacher and her colleagues had arranged for her class to be waiting for her outside school- a perfect surprise for her and really made her day that extra bit special during such a different time to be married.
After the ceremony it was back up the road, a short walk away, to Laura’s parents house. A chilled reception with good food, a gin bar and acoustic music.
After Alex’s speech Laura stood to join him and they announced to their family and friends that they are expecting their first baby! You can imagine the joy in the room!
As with most couples, we did two sets of portraits. One set straight after a few group shots and then the next set at sunset.
I love shooting sunset when the light hits just right. You can’t always guarentee the golden light but you can guarantee that these last sets of portraits are so worth it.
