This is one of the biggest decisions for your maternity, newborn and family sessions with me – aside from choosing the right location for you.
Choosing your outfit is so important, which is why I also offer a client wardrobe to try and take some of the pressure off.
My professional opinion is for you to wear neutrals without and print or logos. Now, this may sound a little drastic; no print or labels?! But hear me out on this one.
Colour is such an easy distraction from the main subject of the image. Let’s just say you are wanting a family portrait session and you have two kiddies with you, and then you dress one of them in blue, one in pink and you wear purple. All of a sudden the focus of the image becomes more about the colour than your children. Throw print and logos into the mix and you pretty much have an image all about the clothes you are wearing.
Let me give you an example:
This image of Parker and his Mama is so clean. There aren’t any distractions within the image due to their clothing, this is why your eye is instantly drawn to his beautiful face.
When looking for a photographer for your portrait session look at their style of photography and what makes up the full image. The locations they shoot in, the clothing they can provide, the lighting they use, the edits for your final images. All of these elements are what make each photographer unique and that is such a lovely thing. There is a photographer out there for everyone.
My style is very delicate, I like to capture soft moments. I like your photos to look timeless and distraction-free so your main focus in all of your photographs is you and your children. That is so important to me. Aside from newborn sessions (which tend to be in your home) my sessions are done in nature for that bohemian feel – it also allows your children to feel happy and free and I can capture them being themselves.
Find a photographer who offers everything you could dream of for your session as well as the style of their work!
Make sure you have everything you want from your session so you can enjoy your professional images for all the years to come.
I’m based in Sheffield and have been a photographer specialising in portraiture for over ten years. I LOVE capturing maternity, newborns and families and even though a lot of my work is as a wedding photographer I leave ample space in my diary each year to capture your growing family.
I have different packages on offer so you can select exactly what you want from your session and I provide a minimum of 50 full resolution edited images with every session.
My portrait sessions take me all over our glorious country so don’t let the idea of me being based in Sheffield put you off (as long as you don’t mind a strong Yorkshire accent) – I’m always up for traveling.
It is best to book your session as early as you can- maternity and newborns are best booked in from your 12-week maternity point, this is just to avoid disappointment.
With love,
A
